Just picked up this interesting Columbian Expo half dollar. I've seen these before, but what exactly is it classified outside of PMD? Hobo? Engraving? In addition, Columbus' portrait has been lathed off and there is a "T" initial in place. What are your thoughts?
Some coin jewelry is made by cutting away all of the fields, usually by using a very small rattail file. A small drill bit is used to open a hole in each enclosed area of the fields, and the rattail file is inserted to clean up the rest. Quite often, the design on the opposite side is ground away to make the jewelry piece look better. http://www.differencecoin.com/ Chris
That is a tremendous Morgan Larry! I could only imagine the painstaking process that the artists go through. And thank you gentlemen, I figured it was an ex-jewelry piece.
