That is a nice example Chrsmat. Better than mine, but mine is better than the auction.

On a numismatic note, there is an entire series called figural bronzes. It was illegal to show images on gold or silver Islamic coins, but not bronzes. As Turkish tribes took over areas once controlled by romans, they struck a series of copper coins, many of them copying ancient Greek and Roman coins, as well as unique types. The reference Th coins cites was by Spencer and Sayles. Its a two book reference. It was going to be three but they never published the third volume.

 

Another example of these figural bronzes Medoraman refers to:

This one is from the Artuqids of Mardin, Qubt Al-Din Il-Ghazi II, 1176-84 AD. S/S 32

 

That coin and a few other Artuquids of Mardin are on my shopping list
