Hi folks, I got this bill in change today. I thought the serial was interesting, as it is sequential (4567) and had repeating numbers (6666 and then 77). Is this anything interesting enough to command a premium? I don't have a strong interest in collecting paper money. Thanks, simon
The amount depends on how many interested buyers there are and how much they are willing to spend. The fancy serial number market is tricky to valuate. Most buyers of fancy serial numbers will want AU or better condition. This note unfortunately is not. If you get lucky, you could bring in $20-$30 for it on a good day, marketing it as a "ladder" serial number. On a bad day... about $5.
Are we allowed to list bills in the "For Sale" on cointalk? Or is there a special "bills only" for sale section?
I would say a reasonable premium for a circulated note such as this is 3 to 5 but you may find a number of interested bidders that would bring it up to what funkee mentioned. You can post it in the for sale area.
ive tried to use the bst boards here couple times but most of the volume is around coins, bill posts seem to get lost, if even findable. Would it be possible to have a sub section under bst for Coins, Currency, Bullion ?
That has been asked for before and the answer is no. Why? So few people sell paper currency here it doesn't warrant it. Now be that it's the cause or the effect, it still doesn't warrant it. I think actual sales of anything listed on CT is very small. Many sales happen because the thread is linked to eBay and may not have been sold to a Coin Talk member at all. Selling is not the main objective of this site, discussion and sharing information is.
