Intercept Shield

I am in the process of moving some of my nicest raw coins into intercept shield 2x2s. I have heard they sell boxes for their 2x2s, and it looks like they have 2 rows in them that each hold 50 2x2s. My question is...are there little notches in the walls that hold the 2x2s in place or are they just stacked in there. The reason I ask is, I don't have 50 coins moved over just yet...and I want to store them such that they don't fall all over the inside of their box. Has anyone used these boxes before?

I have the single-row Intercept Shield boxes for my 2x2's and there aren't any notches in it, so I assume the double row would be the same. So yeah, they fall over if the box isn't totally full - I usually just put some empty 2x2's in there to hold up the others.

 

No slots on these.

Is this the only way to store these holders?

 

I'm also converting alot of my colection to Intercept Shields and I use these

They have two slots that you can insert in. I think it holds like 25 or 30 maybe

 

Do they fit in there pretty well?

 

They fit ok, they have a little bit of wiggle room around the sides maybe a mm or two, so they ain't very snug on the sides, but fit ok.

 

Maybe I will try that. I wanted to use an IS box but they don't have tracks. You make a good point that the ANACS slabs are pretty small and their 2x2s would probably fit in there just fine.

 

I'm using the IS stuff I bought about 10 years ago - 2 x 2s and the boxes that hold 35 of them (36 for a tight fit) and a box and inner holders for slabs, which hold 10. According to what it says on the boxes, it's time to change them out now $$$$$

 

Is it really necessary to change them out that frequently?

To be honest, I think I could live with airtites if I could fund a nice way to store them.

 

IS says for optimum protection ( or optimum profits? ) , change them every 10 years.

 

You're right, if you value your collection, it's worth doing, and if they do the job (which they do, on my coins, so far), I'll help them profit also.

 

How inferior are airtites to IS 2x2s?

 

That's a good question. All I can say is, my coins in IS 2x2s in IS boxes have been fine for at least 10 years. The closest thing I have to air-tites are some single coins from the mint in OGP, in the capsules which are similar to air-tites, which are also still fine after 10 years or more.

I like gdjmsp's idea of using air-tites in 2x2s in IS boxes, that might just work.

 

Doug, is there a particular brand or type of airtite you prefer?
