I recently had an Intercept Shield open on me as I was handling it. I am sure it was closed properly on an American Gold Eagle (1 oz). Luckily it only fell a couple of inches onto my felt viewing cloth with no damage. What I was wondering was if anybody out there seals their Intercept Shield cases with glue or heat. I am leery of glue as to the vapors affecting the coins, but I was thinking of using a small electronic soldering pencil with a wide tip to melt a small area on all 4 sides. Any suggestions?
Hello...Im no expect but I know there are some very good holders for gold coins...you don't have to create something yourself
I wouldn't suggest using either. But if it is truly a problem - a small piece of scotch tape should serve nicely.
I have over 300 Intercept Shields and here's a good guess at what happened: Somewhere along the line you interchanged one top-cover with a rear-cover from a different holder - I have found most all the time I do that the holder will not properly close and will easily fall apart if you don't keep the original top and bottom covers together as they came out of the packaging. Also sometimes you need to be extra-sure to press the holder carefully and firmly tight. When I ensure that I NEVER interchange covers AND press firmly, I get zero failure rate. One gripe I do have though is that about 5% of the holders I have are defective in other ways, mostly a plastic spot defect over the coin cutout area, which won't harm the coin but spoils the view. Anyway hope that helps.
