I noticed something on my way to work in downtown Columbus, Ohio. The building is an old bank on third street. It has a large walking liberty coin engraved on the front. The odd thing is the date of 1955. The building was built in '55 and I guess they really didn't like the Ben Franklin Half.

I will try and get one. I am usually in traffic but I might be able to pull over for a second.

sweet wheatz, do you have a street number? I live East of Columbus in Reynoldsburg and occasionally go downtown. If it accessable from the sidewalk I wonder if they would let me take a rubbing of the design? I'd ask first, I don't want them thinking I'm tagging the building.

It is at the top of the building about 50 ft up. The building just off broad on 3rd. It is on the left. Looks like an old bank. 66 South third.

Well IMO the Walker was and is a much better design than the Franklin. I don't blame them. :)

Looks like a rubbing is out of the question but a digital picture from across the street is not. Sweet Wheatz and krispy, thank you for the info and pictures.

There are a few buildings in Manhattan NY that have coin engravings on the buildings face. One comes to mind that I saw on Wall Street that had 4 ancients , 2 where the Alexander Macedonian one and the other Athena and the owl.

    Ahhhhhhh, the rare 1955 WL.
Goes along with the 1964 Peace dollar (except this actually existed for a while).

I suggest you just take a ladder, go right up to that building, set up the ladder, climb up and take a close photo. I promise I will not visit you in what ever jail you are place in, nor will I post bond. However, we all will get a great photo.

...or simply use a telephoto lens, avoid the jail/bond part, and we still get a great photo from your efforts.:eek:hya:
