I would like some thoughts on creating an informational thread. Some other members have suggested this thought also, so lets decide. Would you like such a topic to be created, and would you participate? The series could be specific to a certain series or coin.
We would need volunteers to give information on a specific area, so if you have an expertise in an area of numismatics, be sure to let everyone know.
If you are just interested in learning about a specific area, let us know that also.

    Please be specific.

i like the idea nd. but isnt that what the forum is about? how about maybe having a topic that changes every so often about all the different coins. each member could put their input in about a series or individual coin in a series?

Well this would be more geared towards an educational series.
Kind of like a coins in the classroom.

We could pick a specific area, and provide all the facts. Maybe even get into minting proceedures, and the different mints.

awesome. maybe even have tasks to perform. say the moderators ask a certain queastion and we (beginners) try to search for the answer.

obviously this would not apply to some of the more seasoned collectors. or i guess it could. we can never stop learning.

I'm game. I would love to learn and provide research results to the site.

    Count me in....

    Tough question.

One of the things I like about this forum is that fact that it is not subdivided into a thousand esoteric mini-forums with a minimal number of posts per forum, and a small number of readers.

I enjoy the fact that the forum is a likely discussion between what always seems to be a good number of members and an untold number of "viewers." From a "new to the hobby" collector perspective, I would think this is also appealing.

If I had a number of coins that I wanted to learn about, it might seem daunting to me to have to search through a number of topic areas or mini-forums to find the information I needed, and to figure out where to post.

My vote, if you move forward with the idea, would be to limit the forums in a simple and broad fashion - Modern (21st and 20th Century), 19th Century, Colonial, European, Eastern, etc.

If you do move forward, I would be glad to volunteer.

Some folks may not want to hear this - but since I've never been shy I'm going to voice my opinion anyway :D

This site is already broken down into quite a few categories and for me - less is more. I kind of like it like it is ;)

I wasn't thinking a whole new section. More of an question and answer segment that gets into a lot more specific detail.

I was thinking maybe a few of the newer people to the hobby may find it difficult to ask for such things. That is why I posed the question.

GDJMSP, if you ever get shy in your opinions, I am going to assume that someone has stolen your identity. :D

I understand Nd - and I of all people am not against trying to further education or help answer questions. I'm just saying we can do that with things as they are ;)

If you wish to start such a thread - or if anyone else does - by all means start it. It is a simple matter to do so within the Main Coin Forum or the Forum that is appropriate to the subject matter. Then one of the Moderators can add the Stick Pin to the post and it will stay right at the top until such time as the conversation ends on the subject and one fo removes the Stick Pin ;)

So have at it folks :D
