Hello, It has been a while since the last time I was able to visit this wonderful forum and I'm happy to be back! I recently acquired some coins from a friend and dealer, and we couldn't figure out where they come from (kind of!) and their value. The first one seems to be Russian, but no exact information was available. The second one seems to be a Roman coin from the time of Augustus, but not sure either. (it is not in good shape and it is about the same size of a US quarter) Any extra info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
The first coin is a Sadagura coin minted by the Russian solders using Turkish cannons. Those coins are getting a bit uncommon these days - nice find. Usually over 30USD these days. If you got it under that price, good bargain
The second one is as follows: Divus Augustus Æ As. Struck under Tiberius circa 31-37 AD. DIVVS AVGVSTVS PATER, radiate head left / S-C either side of large altar with 2 doors, PROVIDENT in ex. Cohen 228
Thank you!!! I went through the 18th century World Coins book, but I couldn't find any reference to this type of item. Very interesting information. I had forgotten that Russia and the Ottoman Empire were the two big rivals in that area during that time.
Many thanks!!! It looks a little trashed, but what would be the approximate price for a coin like this in this shape?
