Hi Folks My daughter may have found an unplated Lincoln in her change. Few ? What would be the first step to see or send to whom to make sure its not fake? And Any idea what one may be worth? If its real is it worth grading and slabbing? THANKS JON
The discoloration may be the clue I guess But its more of a grayish shadow and almost looks like aluminum crud. If the pics look copper color they really are not. What would this be made of originality
It does appear to be a genuine unplated cent.... however the stuff on the obverse looks to be corrosion damage. Zinc tends to corrode pretty easily. It is possible that someone even did an acid test on it to check if it was genuine (EEK!)
The "things" above and below the T in LIBERTY appear to be raise string like areas. If they are that is not good. A non-plated planchet would have flat smooth surfaces. This looks like lint or something caught under a plating layer.
I believe that is Lint off the new cotton sock I used to make sure there was no finger prints from my daughter or who ever had it I believe they are or were stuck between the coin and the airtight, Me Bad. I looke real close with a magnafying glass and there are a few small scratches showing maybe bag damage over the T Or Y
Nothing Raised all indented , So with that corrosion its probably nothing then Huh??? What would your suggestions be? Is there anything that can stop the corrosion or Not ? What should she do with it? Save it for her son or ?? If you look real close at the blow up there seems to be something raised between the E In We and T in Trust at the bottom almost like an Partial L
