Just thought I'd show you guys this. I Bought 10 of these copper coins for $5 (I think that's a pretty good bargain). I was told they are Indian Mughal coins from the Akbar period? I think they're somewhere between 700 - 1200 years old but I honestly have no idea what I'm looking at here, just thought they looked really cool and would be a nice addition to my growing collection. They're quite heavy and very thick too! I bought them uncleaned and have given them an initial cleaning, some of them are turning up really nice. So, does anyone know anything about these?
If no one chimes in with i.d.'s, you might want to poke around at CoinIndia.com and Zeno.ru to see if anything turns up.
I agree with checking Coin India. The problem I have with finding such things starts with identifying 'up'. I believe your top row has more than one of the same coin but oriented differently. I don't collect as late a Mughal but have the same problem with late ancients.
Very cool, Aaron => and wow, for $5 that may be a new record for thrifty!! ... man, I paid $5 for a beer last night (well I actually paid $60 ... umm, and then $10 for the cab home) ... and I have nuthin' to show for it today!! => you definitely win, brother!!
I think I've managed to ID some of them, most seem to be the same coin. They are a 'Muzaffar Shah Shri Jam Nawanagar 1 Dokdo'. Wow that was a mouthful. http://www.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/opa...tml?&priref=100468&_function_=xslt&_limit_=50 More info on the coin there just in case anyone is interested
Excellent. When you buy lots it is standard to get 10 lesser examples rather than one good one so you might want to select the best to keep and remarket the rest. The one identified is certainly worth the $5 as was the experience of doing the ID. Congratulations.
