Hi, I recently came across this coin and have been a little puzzled... Is this a real brockage error, or post mint damage? Thanks in advance for your opinions
Damaged. Also known as a Vise or Sandwiched job Whenever you see an image incused into the field and reversed, it's purposely made
I'm curious on how I would tell the difference between a squeeze job and real brockage... I get confused as to why the "liberty" isn't more smashed in the 2nd photo
Poor 1909 lincoln. I assumed it was purposely made... So in the case of brockage it would not be incuse?
Interesting find though I want to share this webpage with you - http://www.error-ref.com/squeeze-job-or-vice-job-or-garage-job/
Brockages are incused, but it's a totally different occurrence. Not your Cent. Believe me, after 30 years of collecting error coins I can tell the difference. I want to share this webpage with you - http://www.error-ref.com/brockage-full/
This is exactly what I needed to read - googling images of brockage with indians on lincolns was to no avail , thank you paddyman98!
One thing to keep in mind is that real brockages won't be dated 12 years apart, from two different issues.
Thats what I was thinking too, but I got confused because it IS 1909 lincoln (1st year) and well toned (maybe recolored?)
A newbie friend of mine was really pumped when he found this recently in a bag of large cents and called me over...
