Dan McConnell, the manager at Lester's Diner, was given a 1918 Indian Head Penny by Don the handyman, who does repairs and cleans out low-income apartments. He finds stuff like this when he cleans out apartments after somebody dies. Anyways, I want to appraise the coin for Dan, but I dont know much about the Indian Head Pennies. Whats the grading rules on toning of Indian head pennies? Toning does not seem to lower the values on the Morgan dollars.
The indian head cent was made from 1859 to 1909. The wheat cent was made from 1909 to 1958.A 1918 p is .20 in good-4 1918s .30 in good-4 1918d is .30 in good-4.Hope this helps
Toning should not affect the grade at all - unless it is particularly ugly toning. Then it lowers the eye appeal. Of course that is subjective I know - but most folks know ugly when they see it. If the toning is attractive - it can increase the value to many collectors.
