Indian Head Penny how to tell if proof or uncirc

    Hello I am looking to find out how I tell if an Indian head penny is a proof or uncirculated,:kewl: any help would be great Thanks qwerty1

    Look at the dentils they are more square than a regular IHC. That is all that I have heard about.

    I'm not sure , but sharpness of strike , squareness of the rims & denticles , lack of any nicks in the field could point to a proof.

    Look at the edge of the coin. It should be squared off if it is Proof and rounded if it is a Business Strike. Also the letters and numerals on a Proof will be flat across the top and rounded on a Business Strike.

    Another thing to look for is mirrors on a Proof coin. Even if the coin has been handled a little the mirrors should remain in the recesses of the shield, lettering and numerals.
