Indian head cent proofs -- diagnostic features?

    hi All,
Can anyone give me advice on distinguishing Indian head cent proof issues from business strikes? I was bidding on a coin on Ebay last week -- "raw proof" and wasn't completely confident in doing that. Looks like a decent mint state to me.
Also, I have an old cull coin that looks like an extraordinarily bold strike that I always thought might be a proof.
    Any advice out there?
    thanks

Proofs are kind of tricky from photos, i would recomend not buying proofs on ebay as you can't see, unless of course they're certified.

The rims are usually the giveaway. Proofs may have sharply-struck, "wire" rims.

If you can't get good enough pictures to tell, don't bid unless the seller is reputable and has a good return policy.
