Dear All, I have a few unidentified coins in my collection, and have not managed to track this one down in any of my books. Does anyone have any ideas. It is 23mm and 20g. Many thanks for any ideas proffered. Regards Gary
I believe it's an Egyptian coin of Suleiman I. Date looks to be AH973(1565). Rotate top pic 90ccw and date is at the bottom.
Mmmm...interesting. I had assumed it to be Indian (wrongly). My task for today is to look in to the Egyptian pages! Many thanks. Gary.
Well, I could not find it in Mitchiner, but have found very similar coins in Valentine. The "fly whisk" on the obv does feature on coins of Egypt (but I think it is actually part of the Tughra), and the Rev design is on a few different coins of that time. So, Suleiman I it is!. Thanks again for the pointer. Gary
