Hell friends, I've come across a Pattern Proof coin of India 1949 from an honourable dealer. It is a 2 Annas coin made of brass. There is a peacock facing left on one side and the usual lion capital on the other side. The Krause catalogue says the coin is made of Copper and Nickel. Can anybody say for sure this coin is a genuine one or not... Please do help me..
They are authorised dealers for PCGS, NGC, and ANACS. Life Member ANA and Coinnet. in business for over 15 years and specialize in World Gold Coins. They got about 3000 positive feedback also..
Well I don't know. I don't remember how much it was on coinvault.com (here is the link: http://www.coinvault.com/i/w5637.jpg) But what honestly bothers me is that he is using someone else's photo, unless he himself is Clark Smith.
the thing is that i'm a bit confused.... there is a copper nickel coin of similar type in the Krause catalogue, but not a brass one...
Dominion of India. Spiraltreet, this piece looks like the ones that were prepared, but not adopted by the Dominion of India (15th of August 1947 to 26th of January 1950). Aidan.
If Clark says it's genuine - that would be good enough for me. The reason the metal composition is different than that listed in Krause is because it is a pattern coin.
The thing is that Krause has it as a pattern coin... but it is copper and nickel... Now who's wrong? This is the real question... please look into the page..
Well let's see, is Krause the god of coin catalogues? Maybe it is. But is it perfect? Definately no, as I have seen quite a fair bit of errors. But don't forget, since it is a catalogue, it may not be perfect as not everything is reported. That is a good reason why there are different editions., You should try to get a hold of a copy of catalogue that specializes in Indian trial coins. I seriously doubt that Clark Smith is trying to pull something here and in fact, you can ask him via email of what reference he used. If that is not good enough for you, you can buy the coin from him, send it for authenticity in the major slabbing companies and if it is deemed as a counterfeit, you can return it. And if you are very interested in the coin, you might be able to send a downpayment and ask him to slab it for you. Don't forget, the problem of trial coins is that not everything gets reported. It may be genuine but it never got reported. But does that mean it's counterfeit? Definately not.
thanx a lot for this... Now i feel really confident to buy that coin.... Thank you very much my friends...
Biju, when are you going to post the photos of the nice pattern coin? As it isn't listed in Krause, you better email some photos through to Tom.Michael@fwpubs.com . Aidan.
Aidan, actually I'm a bit fed up with this reporting uncatalogued coins. I've tried to report the 1992 Two Rupee commemorating 'Land Vital Resource' with supporting proofs.. I gave them clear pictures and weights of the coin.. But after 2 mails, there was no reply.. I was left frustrated ..
Hi... Am seeing some help... I stay in India. Wanted to know how I can access Karuse publications/ online lists for hte valuation of coins. Secondly: Does anyone know good coin dealers in India/Delhi region... I have contacted some reputed coin collectors in Calcutta on this coin. Will revert if I hear something from them.
