i ve got two indian 1 rupee and they are from 1879 and 1893 and they are both different. can anyone tell me about their value?
The age may play a small factor in their value, but their quite common coins and would not achieve a large value. I found them for not more than a dollar. Sorry if this dissappoints you. The coins are in nice condition so maybe they'll hinder $5 or so.
I found ones very similar, from India and with a date in the mid 1800's at a flea market, I bought 2 for $1 each and gave them to my girlfriend, who collects all coins but gives me all the US ones in exchange for all the foreign ones I find which are of interest
There's no way to conclusively identify your 1879 Rupee as one of several genuine or restrike varieties of KM#492. Most of the legitimate ones were minted at Bombay, but Calcutta also produced some. They are distinguished by small rosettes and dots, which can't clearly be seen in photos. The values range from about $5-35 in the 3rd Ed. 19th Century Krause, and probably haven't changed much in the current 4th Ed. The 1893 also KM#492, and with several varieties, including both Calcutta and Bombay intmarks, and some restrikes, is valued in the same ballpark as the 1879. The bust, of course, is Queen Victoria, listed only as Empress of India, and with none of the other titles appearing on most of her worldwide coins.
