Indestrucible Cent Tubes... They don't make them like they use to!

I bought this old collection of Wheat Cent Rolls in these nasty yellow looking tubes. I figured they were just old since the guy I got them from was talking about how he use to roam with the dinosaurs....(and no I'm not kidding) So, for your enjoyment.....I decided to show you these rolls because getting the Wheats out are a pain in itself. Enjoy :D

Unbelievably strong. And they are a little more narrow then our modern tubes so getting the cents out are near impossible.

If you want to talk to someone that REALLY roamed with the dinosaurs, talk to Doug. :D

I'm guessing they are made out of polycarbonate. PC is what safety glasses and the middle of your windshield are made from. Acrylic is also called "plexiglass"

PC is around 250x stronger than glass.

Acrylic is only 17x stronger than glass. Acrylic however, is more scratch resistant.

Acrylic is more clearer and can be polished, while PC cannot.

PC also shrinks over time and yellows.

That's why the newer tubes are made from acrylic. They are clearer, more scratch resistant, and won't yellow or shrink over time. Your coin tubes were not made narrower, they actually shrunk.

So unless you need your coin tubes to survive a 12 foot fall, Acrylic is ok.

I would heat the tubes with a hair dryer. This will cause them to expand. The heat is not hot enough to ruin the coins or melt the plastic.
