Just thought i get other people's opinion on what i have been seeing for past 3 months, it looks there is ton of coins from Greece and Cyprus up for auction more so than ever before. A lot of these sellers seem to have relatively low feedback and new accounts.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed this? It is likely due to economic situation there which makes want to wait and see how situation turns out before bidding on any coins from there.

Considering that Greece and Cyprus have law restricting export and/or agreements with the US government restricting import of their coins, US collectors may wish to consider how much they want to 'bet' they will ever receive coins purchased from those countries. Read your avatar.

Does anyone have recent experience buying from these sales and receiving the genuine as advertised coins?

The coins i buy aren't ancients as for purchasing from there i have purchased only once from there it was Last Drachma coin, the coin came as advertised and the seller had a established sales history.

I received some coins a few months ago that were shown as the seller was in Australia but the postmark was Cyprus. Cyprus minted coins as well. I was truly surprised to see that one come through.

I would find it funny sellers from these countries would advertise it as such. I would think listing a false source country like my seller did would make more sense for ancients.

For modern coins that jjack is talking about, I think it would make sense that people there would be scrambling for whatever hard cash they can raise, especially sales overseas that is harder to track back by the tax man.

My only concern is if more of those coins are hiting the market and ending up in states, won't that result in over abundance of those coins here. It is repeat of what happened with the Franklin Mint coin issues'.
