It's been a blanket policy of mine not to accept such requests, not only here, but everywhere.

But I've had several requests from in here; I currently have two pending.
I normally just ignore them as stated in my first sentence.
Nothing against the people involved; I don't know them so I don't know what they're like and why they selected me as a possible "friend".

But finally I'll ask the question:
Is there a benefit to accepting these requests?

Yeah having them on your contacts list so it is easy to see what they are doing and to make PM's easier.

    I understand the PM's part.
But how does it make it easier "to see what they are doing"?

As far as the functionality of the site goes, I think the only other thing is that you can share some pictures with people on your list but keep them from being seen by anyone else. On a social level, some people might feel slighted if you don't accept their request. I hope that everyone here is mature enough to take it in stride, but you never know.

I always accept, I dont see any reason why I wouldnt. Even if I dont know them, it just means they are added to some list in my profile...

Well I feel you could tell how a person is on this site ,by there personality just by communicating with them in the posts or threads. I can tell and feel what a person is all about, and who's friendly or not. I don't think theres any reason to be nervous about this ,and private messages are your choice when you get involved with a person. I don't think you should give a phone number out unless you really trust that individual as a good frend

Here in the Mid-Atlantic states, "Friends With Benefits" has a totally different meaning.

Kanga - I believe I am one of those who sent a friend invite a long time ago. The reason was because I found your posts worthwhile and I guess, in a small way, it was my way of showing respect. It doesn't bother me that you have not accepted the request.

The "friends" feature to me is whatever one wants it to be. There few here that I wouldn't call a potential friend since many are helpful and add to my knowledge. Not sure that it has a whole lot of meaning as a feature on this site, but in my case, I was using it as part of my experience on CoinTalk.
