Is anyone going to the Iowa Numismatic Association show at the Adventureland Inn this weekend (Oct 18-19)? I am sure they will have decent dealers but I hate the location.
I probably won't get down there this year. The location is not so bad except for the smell of chlorine from the pool. They used to have monthly coin shows there when I lived in Iowa. Being in Des Moines I am sure its being hosted by the DMCC. If you see any of them tell them Chris, (the crazy dude that collects ancients), says hi!
The location is not bad, the hotel is a dump and not well maintained. The smell is a combination of chlorine and old cigarette smoke. I will be there; but I wish they would consider a different location as there are several better places in Des Moines where they can have it.
The Des Moines Coin Club used to have their show at the Fairgrounds, but not if they were hosting the INA that year. I preferred the Fairgrounds, but out of town dealers wanted it at a hotel. Talk to Christopher at Christopher's coins. He runs the shows for them.
Sounds like a good idea. I think the the INA and DMCC run the show. I am not sure if DMCC will ever consider moving the show to a different location.
I was at the show on Saturday morning with my wife. We saw some friends and it was a fairly decent morning. There were some friendly, excellent dealers - several from out of state - at the show and coins with "bling" quality. The inventory was impressive which would be expected at a state show. However, the Adventureland Inn facilities like usual were lacking - the floor was layout was very tight and cramped and lighting was not working. My wife was getting claustrophobic and we had to leave the show early. Others has similar experiences. The show has great dealers, and there is enthusiasm to grow, but they really need a consider a more accommodating location.
