Hi all, I received this in the mail today - a silver 1749 indian rupee, Bengal Presidency MS63. It's the first graded coin I've owned and I'm very pleased with it. Does anyone else own one of these? Mark
Nice coin! Suggestion.. You should make your thread title more informative.. You could of stated.. Silver 1749 India Rupee - Bengal Presidency So if a member does a future search using the titles it can direct them to your thread
Nice coin! The "1749" on the NGC slab is not the CE year but the two regnal years on the coin, "17" and "49". I have a similar East India Company Bengal Presidency coin: Bengal Presidency Rupee, Shah Alam II, Banares, AH 1221 (AD 1806) Regnal Years 17 and 48 Silver, 22 mm, 11.34 gm, KM-40.1 Obverse in Persian Arabic: Fish symbol at upper left, 1221 at bottom Shah Alam, Emperor, in the shadow of Allah's divine favor, Defender of the Religion of Muhammad, Struck this coin over seven regions Reverse in Persian Arabic: Struck at Muhammadabad Banares in the year 48 of his reign associated with tranquil prosperity Notes: These coins were struck at the Muhammadabad Banares mint by the Company from 1780 to 1812 under the name of Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II (Life: AD 1728-1806 Reign: AD 1760-1806) The coins they issued showed a double regnal year, the fixed regnal year 17 (AD 1775) of the first British issues, and then the progressive regnal years until the death of Shah Alam II in regnal year 48 (AD 1805). The Company continued to issue these coins after the death of Shah Alam.
