I know this is going to be one of those head-scratching, why the he** could I not figure this out on my own, but nonetheless, I am here because I am done racking my brain trying to "solve" an issue that I simply cannot do on my own. Hence, I am hoping that someone here can set me straight.

Okay, so I have 3 different 1971-S Eisenhower coins: one is a proof that I had removed from the GSA-style slab; the second is the uncirculated Ike (plilofilm, blue envelope). And a third is another proof that was cherrypicked from a proof set. The first two coins (individually) weigh 24.6g -- just as they should. However, the third proof weighs 25.1g. Huh?

Someone PLEASE tell me what I am missing here, because for the life of me, I cannot find ANY 1971-S Ike that weighs 25.1g! (And yes, I have weighed it dozens of times... on 3 different scales).

If you don't mind my asking, why does this bother you? They're all probably within tolerance, I just looked it up. The proofs should be 24.59 and the business strike should be 22.68. Maybe you need more scales, lol. But my point is, who cares if they're a little heavy or light?

Weight/tolerance level is nearly a full gram on Ike dollars. Just a slightly thicker planchet.

The weight difference is too close to be of any concern. It’s normal.

Very good point. I just had no idea that they fluctuated in weight.
