That is like asking you I have a coin..is it worth anything? Need to give details about the dollar even better attach a picture of both sides of the dollar (which will greatly help out!). Not trying to discourage you, just want to be honest.
"Inherited" $2.. they are like bicentennial coins in that non collectors assume they are valuable when in reality, they are very common. If inherited, the value is in who its previous owner was to you.
According to my calculations, taking into account inflation, and supply vs. demand, it is worth 200 cents. Give or take.
Ummm...guys, the Chicago star is one of the better stars in this series. It's not one of the keys, but it's not one of the common ones either. The value will of course depend heavily on the condition, but in nice shape, this note could easily fetch several tens of dollars. Unless it's quite trashed it should be worth more than face value....
Generally the star on this Chicago District note would increase the value compared to a regular note, or most other stars from the 1976 series. Unfortunately, the condition of the bill reduces the premium it would have to a collector. IMO, it is worth $5 max in its current state.
If notes are found to have imperfections, they are removed before releasing them, then a replacement note with that serial number is produced with a star. So a star is a replacement note. They can command a premium (depending upon condition, of course) because they are a lot more rare than the average note (which doesn't necessarily make them "rare"). Hope that helps.
Coin Talk Code of Honor 1. Post unto others as you would have them post unto you. Read more: http://www.cointalk.com/t34131/#ixzz1xibrfJkd The Whitman 09 has the note in EF grade at $14. Ebay - (the better price guide) has better examples ending soon sitting at $5 with 1 bid and $7 with no bids. You would get at least $5 for the 2nd note and a little less for the 1st. Not a win-fall, but worth a little more than face.
That's right you paper money collectors. Drive us coin collectors away with your knowledge. Thanks for helping him properly. ~Cannyn
Actually Cannyn, Three paper money collectors give him helpful information, two coin collectors posted inappropriate comments. The paper money collectors are generally very helpful and wecome anyone that wants to participate in a constructive manner.
Those crazy paper guys (and gals??????) - having knowledge and giving it freely. What's the world coming to?
What was wrong with my opinion? I felt that it wasn't worth more than face. There was no attempt to be nasty, ridicule, or debasing the poster. I thought $2, simply face, and you thought $5, less eBay fees, and postage, and driving (gas) plus time to the post office. How is that different? If someone thought that my item was not worth anything, then so be it. Should I lie? Or, as I will do now... ignore posts, and keep my opinions to myself. But, I was under the impression that was the reason for the forum. Did I denigrate the OP? No. Did I denigrate the bill? No. Did I make fun of someone? Or their ignorance? No. The reference to the code of honor was meaningless. Especially since honesty is apparently not the best policy. I guess time for my time out. PS: I guess that the next time that somone posts a zinc cent I should ooh and ah. And proclaim the unlimited value of the piece?
