Does anyone remember The Great Toilet Paper Crisis of 1973: I'm sure younger people have never heard of it. It happened at the same time of the OPEC Oil Crisis of 1973. In the current edition of The Atlantic they posted a hilarious video of this event that had me laughing uncontrollably , see the video link below. I guess history does repeat itself . Enjoy & stay well. https://www.theatlantic.com/video/i...tent=20200414&silverid-ref=NTEyMDgzNTU2NjM4S0
The clip reminds me of how funny Johnny Carson was. Clips like this make me long for the good 'ol days. Thanks @Al Kowsky. Good laugh.
I hear there is a shortage of ancient coins - especially this one: and a shortage of oil this morning too
Thank you -- I definitely remember the insanity of the oil crisis. While this is obviously much worse, laughter is always the best medicine. Be well, everybody.
I remember the time well - just out of the Army, I had a part time job pumping gas and helping in the garage at a local Exxon station (they had just switched from Esso that year) - when the shortage hit, the boss would stand in the doorway and nod 'yes' or shake 'nay' for each gas customer - regulars got filled up, strangers got $2 worth. Interesting times indeed
The toilet paper shortage thing is pretty funny here in the UK. We make a lot of the toilet paper we sell here so there's basically no chance of us running out, but has that stopped people buying it up? Nope.
Not just toilet paper, but regular copy, writing and newsprint paper too. Also, some gas stations were selling gas at a "discount" if you payed in U.S. silver coin.
juris klavins, I was living in southern California at the time of the Gas Crisis & remember all the lunacy that went with it. Some people driving "junkers" would nudge new cars with their "rust buckets" to cut in line, fist fights & sometimes gun fights erupted as people grew impatient waiting in long lines ! When the recession hit things got even worse. I moved back to New York State in 1974 where things weren't as crazy .
