It's like waiting for christmas all over again.

In a few days this will be mine... BAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

It's a bit larger of a purchase than I usually make, but I managed to talk myself into it.

Feel free to post your statements of envy... :D

And a 1776 at that !! I suppose for obvious reasons that particular date is one of the most sought after by those collectors in the US.

    Nice coin Rick :high5:

    Thanks guys!

When I noticed Sedwick had this one up for sale, I about fell over my chair to grab it. I can't WAIT to get this one in my hands.

Putting it in an airtite just doesn't seem to do something like this justice... I'm thinking about sending it in to get slabbed. I think it will grade very well.

I have wanted a guinea for years - now this date and this condition? I think a little patience paid off pretty good.

Sylvester, you'll be pleased to know that I have got a holed 1801 1/2 Guinea (10/6) in my collection.I once had a holed 1804 1/3 Guinea, which was stolen after my flat was broken into in a random robbery while I wasn't home back in 2002.I never got it back though.

    Aidan.

    OFFICIAL STATEMENT OF ENVY
I mikjo0,state that I am jealous of the gold George III coin
that you are getting.I have a lot of George III's but no gold and no 1776's
My dealer does have one graded, can't remember what it got or what year
it is but I know he wants like $400 for it so there it sits,
    CONGRATS,I HATE YOU:)

I'm sorry to hear about the third guinea you lost there, it's every collector's worst nightmare.

I've never owned a full guinea but i have owned four half guineas in the past, three of them have now been sold. But for a while i had a 1688 half guinea in Fine condition (problem free), a 1769 half guinea in aVF but slightly creased in places and an aEF (albeit weakly struck) 1810 half guinea.

Currently though the only guinea gold i possess is a really battered (i.e Poor+, although it's more a plain Poor now!) Charles II half guinea, i have no idea what date it would have been as the only bit that is visable is 16... (presumably it's some date in the 1670s). Amusing thing to carry round as a pocket piece though.

Sylvester, the 1688 1/2 Guinea is a King James II one,is it? I reckon that the gold coins of this reign are among the most underrated in the English series (as opposed to the British or Scots series).

That is a very nice picture of King Richard II you have got as your avatar.

Yes it was a James II piece i had a scan of it somewhere (i sold it about a a year and a half ago for a very nice profit... well there's a first [and probably last] time for everything!) It's the only James II coin i've ever had!

I don't have much by the way of gold these days, although i have owned a fair few over the past 10 or so years.

If i can locate a picture i will post it.

Ah old Richard II, i like that picture it has to be said (first proper portrait done of an English monarch). As yet though i've yet to own any Richard II coins!

    Sylvester,I have got a 1687 '7 over 6' Maundy Groat,which is the only King James II coin I have got from England.I have also got a Gun Money 6d. from Ireland,which is unique in 2 respects;

Only coins to have the month of issue as well as the year.

They're the only coins to have been issued after the deposition of a British King.

I would like to get one of King James II's Scots coins, which give his title as King James VII of Scotland, but they are very rare.

    Here's a link that will interest you; www.numiswiki.com .

As to coins of all 3 King Richards of England,I haven't got any. However,I do have a King Henry VI First Reign Groat (4d.),which was struck at Calais.

I also have an Henry VI groat Aidan! The Richard coinage is a little on the scarce side, i have had numberous opportunities to purchase Richard I/II material but none of it was really upto that standard i wanted.

    Richard III is less seen.

Gary i'll get back to you on that groat when i've got my reference material at hand. Those coins are dated by the mintmarks in the legends, looks like saltaire crosses and flowers or something.

    Calais Mint Groats

Mikjo0,Calais Groats were all struck during the early years of King Henry VI's 1st Reign (1422-61).The mint was closed by 1440.

    Behold!

This weekend it has arrived. This coin is something else to hold in my hands.

This example has a bit of some clashed die on the bust, which I tried to blow up on the scan. I had to mess with the color a little bit to show it clearly.

Now I am faced with a problem... have you ever purchased a coin that almost makes you look at your collection differently? I have some nice pieces and all, but this coin is in quite a different league.

I can just look at it all day long... :goof:
