I got this one in change yesterday. Post em if you got them. https://www.error-ref.com/?s=improper+annealed
Here's mine. This is the first slabbed coin I ever purchased. I bought it because it was my birthyear and I thought it looked really cool.
I love it. If you didn't know better, you'd think it was struck on a copper planchet. Really the only nickel color is a little blotch on Jefferson's shoulder and a hint around the motto.
No one has a black beauty? Below is from Error reference https://www.error-ref.com/?s=sintered+planchet Annealing Errors Improper annealing (due to excessive heat, prolonged exposure to intense heat, or excessive oxygen in annealing oven) (replaces “sintered plating” and “copper wash”) (ES July/Aug 2010; CW 11/30/09, 2/8/10) Black, brown, red, coppery discoloration (includes “black beauty” nickels) Layer of copper, often peeling Poorly annealed or unannealed planchets (hard, brittle planchets) (CW 3/14/11) Broken planchets Broken coins Radial cracks in coin (usually struck out-of-collar) Brittle coins (cross-classified with alloy errors) (CW 3/14/11) Abnormally hard planchets (CW 12/17/12, 8/15/22) 1954-S nickels 1983-P nickels COIN WORLD SPECIAL: article posted HERE “Superclash” 2000-P nickel (CW 3/22/10) On undersized or underweight planchets (CW 2/13/12) I have quite a few coins pulled from new rolls that fit this designation/Definition. I will photo a few a little later and this weekend.
Here is one that is dark in hand, and doesn't follow the look of a mint release. What do you think? Found within months of release.
Keep em going folks. Black beauty's always work. They are the coins that brought us the error. I have a few somewhere.
