http://cgi.ebay.com/2007-D-Sacagawe...07?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item45f362155b ...Hey CoinTalkers! I just thought this would be an interesting little error coin to share. Like always, I was browsing the eBay site and stumbled upon this. This coin reminded me of the once VERY popular "Black Beauty" Jefferson Nickel and all of the stories behind what ACTUALLY happened that day at the mint, though most are only rumors. I have never seen a "baked" (improperly annealed) Sac. dollar and was unsure of what one would look like due to the color and the unusually mixture of elements; one being Maganese. Well now I know and SO DO YOU! Thanks for Letting Me Share, Brian
As far as I know, the source of this discoloration hasn't been established. Tying it to the annealing oven is simply a guess on the part of the grading services.
