I asked him a question about the bill and he said "I've looked at the info also; I've heard of bad ink mixtures. I dont know what to tell you other than there are alot of these bills out there and if they were counterfeit or something else I think people would know to stay away from these bills." Oh My!! What a load of crap, Bad ink mixtures? Thats a poor excuse. As far as people staying away from this type of scam is a matter of how much they're educated. Thats why it pays to research these things and read everything you can get your hands on about the subject before you spend any amount of money....this situation is a prime example.
Thats exactly what ran through my mind xeno. I thought I'd do the next best thing (like it really made a difference) and inform the seller that what he had was'nt a legitimate bill and he proceeded to e-mail me with the above quote. Apparently he didnt read the same info about it that everyone else has. The funny thing is there's even a review written about these particular bills on Ebay warning buyers not to purchase these fake bills....thats where education comes in.
These are bleached $2 and $5 red seal US notes. This Is a common SCAM aimed at semi literate and ignorant people that have an interest, but no knowledege of collecting US paper money. The bleach turns the red seal into a yellow seal. Usually These sellers will claim something to the effect that these notes may have been altered. Only Genuine US Gold Certificates (1928) will have Gold (yellow) Numbers and seal, and North African WWII Silver Certificates Will have a Gold (yellow) seal with Blue Numbers.
Not just "the guy that won it" These auctions on ebay are a daily thing. For years. Hundreds or more people been ripped off.
