Forty years was a fun ride but I quit. I'm finished playing their game. They could not care less about collectors. The fun is gone. I'm finished with anything modern.
Heck, I cancelled all of my subscriptions in 2008 when the SQ program ended. I remember when I first started buying products directly from the Mint. You could get "one of everything" for several thousand dollars. By 2008, that figure was about $18K, and the quality of many designs really sucked! Chris
You're better off on the after market at this point anyway. Let other people deal with the quality issues
I haven't bought one thing from the US Mint since 1986. They've dropped both artistry and the delivery of value in favor of stuffing the coffers of our wasteful representatives. Anyone else here quit before me?
The ASE fiasco the other day did me in. What I want (which is virtually nothing among the modern issues) I'll pick up on the secondary market or do without.
I stopped in 1921. When they said there would be no proof Morgan's then I found out a big dealer and an ANA President were given special treatment Edited: language.
I haven't bought any recent mint products since the early nineties and have since sold all I had. Found it more satisfying to go for 19th and early 20th century coins. I might be tempted by a palladium coin if they do issue one though, but would probably buy on the secondary market. Would just do it for the novelty like when I bought an Austrian niobium coin. Cal
I'm done after the finish of the ATB program, except for some P bagged quarters to continue to look for errors. Plus I'm sick of buying extra pages for all my Dansco's.
Mint Sets from the Mint and I parted ways in 1971. At that time to me, it closely resembled throwing money down a rat hole.
Here's a link to file an online complaint with the U.S. Treasury Department Inspector General. You can file anonymously and mint mismanagement is a legit complaint. If they get a bunch of these, they may do something about it. https://www.treasury.gov/about/organizational-structure/ig/Pages/OigOnlineHotlineForm.aspx Here's a sample complaint: David Motl, Acting Principal Deputy Director United States Mint I am filing this complaint because of mismanagement (or worse) by David Motl, Acting Principal Deputy Director of the United States Mint. The U.S. Mint under Mr. Motl’s direction repeatedly offers limited edition coins in a manner that allows a few large business interests to monopolize the entire issue. The most recent abuse was an offering for the 2017 Congratulations Set on April 4, 2017 with no ordering limits. This issue sold out in less than two minutes and most collectors were shutout. It appears from aftermarkets sales, a few large dealers bought most of the sets. Please review Mr. Motl’s business practices in order to assure all U.S. Mint customers have a chance to purchase their offerings. Thank You.
The Congratulation set was disturbing. I just wanted one to continue my collection from last year. I hope there's no big fiasco with the Limited Set this year either .. I have those too. But the pricing of the gold commems from last year also turned me off. I skipped the mercury, and decided to skip the Standing Lib. But bought the Walking Lib. I'll probably back fill the Standing Lib and Mercury when the prices drop especially the SL as it's not even sold out (neither is the Walking but I already bought one of those premium coins).
LOL, yeah, they can be sued, but costly. Much more efficient to ask the Inspector General to look into it, it's their job to find something wrong with federal agencies.
