So I got this 1968 s proof Penny and I scoped it and matched the rpm-001 and then I noticed its got some extremely strong doubling on the obverse and I can't put my finger on that ddo it is. Any help apricated.
I don’t see an RPM listed for a 1968 S proof and nothing matching a DDO for a proof. I see some MD on the outer devices. What is interesting is the possible bar protruding from the L in LIBERTY. That might be worth exploring a bit more.
This is the listing I found for the rpm-001 for the 68s and it matches but mines a proof and I'm honestly new to this so I don't know all the places to check to find out what's going on with the l in liberty
They separate the RPM listings for proofs and business strikes. So that is the first criteria to pass. So it can’t be RPM 001 since that’s assigned to a business strike. As for the DDO, the same applies. Have a look at your coin and take a look at the L. Does it look correct? Anything protruding from the top?
Hi Jim - that bit of a halo is common enough that a person like me, who doesn’t really collect proofs, has come to notice. I noticed this on a couple of the impaired proofs I caught during CRH events and wondered if that had anything to do with liberated proofs. Probably not, but it crossed my mind. Maybe it’s just more noticeable on proofs because of the contrast with the field.
If you scroll thru the listings the die chip is common. The problem is that your MM positioning is not correct. I agree with @Rick Stachowski on the DDO.
