This coin has some issues... obviously. It looks to have some rim damage on the reverse so I'm not going to hurt it any more then it is. I paid a little less then melt for it so if I screw it up... no loss for me. I just wanted to see if I could make this coin look any better. I'm not so worried about the brown as I think some schmuck put nitric acid on it. Looking more at the green residue. I did what I do first with most coins with issues and have put it in a bath of pure acetone. I'm going to let it soak till this afternoon and pull it out and take some pictures.
That green stuff almost looks like a rather large tattoo on the young thing....... I await the update and report on your progress.
That is a very interesting pattern for the green. It almost looks like shes wearing a designer shirt. I have a feeling the acetone isn't going to do much. But a quick dip would certainly help it out.
It actually looks like someone put a drop or two of some type of liquid adhesive on it for mounting, and when it was pressed down, the adhesive spread out in a random pattern. Chris
It's either glue or chemically melted plastic. Either way acetone would be my first course of action for either.
after looking at it a little more I decided to bypass the second acetone soak for now and did what I call an extended dip. Using dip I left this piece in for around 30-40 seconds... (GASP I know) results: Now back to the acetone.
Another acetone bath and extended dip shows little to no change. That's as good as this one is going to get. Before: After:
That's where someone filed into it before dropping nitric acid on it to make sure it was silver (not my shop). It was more of a test to see how much better I could make this guy look. I knew it wouldn't come back totally.
