Does anyone know why Ike Dollars have suddenly jumped in value on Ebay? Up until recently they would sell for about a 10% over face price. 100 for $110ish. Lately several sets of 100 have sold for around $145. Seems really odd to me unless I am missing something. It is making me think about unloading some of mine for sure haha.

Are they the 40% silver Ikes? Could be due to recent PM prices.

Could be this long thread has something to do with it. I think some ppl come across this forum when doing research and when CT talks, ppl listen. That's just what I think.

    FretBoard is right,
More people are starting to understand just how un-studied this series of coin really is and it is picking up in popularity.
I think people like the idea of being on the ground floor of discovering
just how rare these coins are in higher grades. It is unbelievable.
A few points of interest in the Eisenhower series.
    1. The Last Large Silver Dollar to be made by the U.S. Mint.( For Circulation)
    2. Series is 30 plus years old.
    3. For such a short Series of coin (8 years) there are many major design varieties and errors. Double Dies,Clashed Dies, Re-Punched Mint Marks, Entirely different Reverse Design changes inside one year of production (1971-D RDV-006 Friendly Eagle Variety)that have been found by regular collectors. That Most Third Party Graders refuse to recognize. which just boggles my mind. When you consider how fast they jump to attribute things such as the High and low leaf Wisconsin State Quarter and 2005 Speared Buffalo Nickel. .
4.Series has Copper-Nickel clad regular production for circulation and Proofs. Plus 40% Silver Business Strikes and Proofs. In just a 32 coin series.
5.Obverse Commemorates One of the Great Generals of World War II, who was instrumental in saving America from losing the war.
6.Reverse Commemorates one of Mankind's Greatest Scientific achievements in all of history, The Landing of a human being on another Planet. (I Know the Moon is not a Planet You Know what I mean I hope)
The Eisenhower Dollar Series has been one of the most challenging and fun series of coins I have had the pleasure of being involved with.
I have been collecting off and on since the mid 70's More on than off.
Hope this gives you an idea why they are picking up in price.
And this is just the Very Beginning for this series. Which is what makes it so much fun for me personally. I look forward to the day when talking to my Grandson or Granddaughter and say " I picked up that Ike for x amount of dollars and it is now going for xxxxxx amount". and Hearing
    "Wow Grandpa You are Old"

That's about going rate of bags of 100 Ikes, anywhere from $30 to $45 over face value. It's not just eBay, several dealers I do business with have bags of 100 Ikes for $135.

Stewart is so right with his comments. I am not suprised. It was only a matter of time before these coins started to rise in value. The great thing about this series is that you can go to just one coin show and with just a little detective work, you come home with at least one neat IKE for your collection. Just need to know what you are looking for.

Very good response sir! I think you guys have to be right. I am a half dollar searcher but a lot of times when they tellers don't have half dollars, they will often ask me if I would like these "big" dollars. I always take them as I knew I would never lose any money but now I am seeing the potential for a decent little increase in value.

    Thanks,

    Erin

    Ebay just ended

Another example of the Ikes goin out of whack. An Auction for 15 Ikes, no silver just ended and sold for $56 with $6 shipping. Circulated.

The past 2 weeks they have been climbing in price but now almost $4 a coin????

If you think they are getting expensive on Ebay
Check out Heritage Auctions scroll down to Previous Prices from Heritage Auctions

    http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=210051&Lot_No=21165

And that is just in MS65 when you get higher in the grades they go incredibly
higher. People are just now starting to catch on exactly how rare this series of coins are in higher grades. In lower grades they are quite common and prices realized at auctions reflect this, as do the high prices realized at auction reflect their rarity in high grades. Not to mention all the varieties.

    Majorbigtime,
"Common junk that must have some appeal to some folks"
I wish people still thought that, I wanted to get my hands on a couple more thousand high grade Ike's before people caught on.:headbang:
