Sorry, but I had issues getting these files uploaded, but this is a 1982 d Copper 3.1 grams penny that I found the other day. You can see it is well circulated, but I have read these coins are rare, and hard to find, so I ask would you get it graded? Also you will have to excuse me if I don't answer right away, I live on the East coast of Florida, and in the path of Hurricane Doria, so it's no doubt I will loose power.
The coin is damaged, so it would be returned to you ungraded, for which they would still keep your grading fees.
Ditto! @joeinslw FWIW, the hurricane is only moving 13 mph. You've got a few days before it closes in on you. Where in Florida are you? Chris
me thinks you should worry more about prepping for the possible hurricane than the value of a coin that is only worth 1c.
That's exactly what I was doing all day, it's dark right now so I'm relaxing a little, and I will complete the shutters etc. in the morning. They say it will be like hell around here Saturday night into Monday morning, but thanks for your concern.
Interesting that so far three people think I should get it graded, and 1 person says no. I wonder if they did the research I did and found out this is a small date because of the 2 on the coin which has a definite difference between the large date and small date because of the 2. It also has all the numbers i.e. 1982 in perfect alignment across the top of them. This coin is definitely a small date, (check out Couch Collectibles and search 1982 Lincoln penny) I do agree it's scratched and maybe will be considered damaged, but does the grading system grade only perfect or proof coins, or do they grade all rare coins? According to what I have read this is a rare coin. I will most likely be off line for the next several days, Dorian will take the power necessary.
Look I only picked getting it graded so a professional tells you it's worth 1 cent, and of the two options in the poll it doesn't have you trying to rip someone else off claiming it's something special when it's not. It's a 1982 D copper Large Date, it's common. You'd be looking for a copper 1982 D small date. Which is the ultra rare one. So out of the option I recommend you waste your money sending it for grading rather than trying to mislead some novice collector on ebay trying to sell it as something it's not. If you had a 3rd option of "only worth 1 cent, spend it" I would have picked that choice all day long.
