Ok, just picked up this blueberry 1954s Washington Quarter. Color is very accurate to the coin in hand.
It is not a circulated coin. There is no wear on the coin. It is a somewhat weak strike, but that is typical for that date and mint.
Gorgeous coin - there's something about the toning that makes me smile. Nice. Condition, IMO: worn, weak strike (as expected), MS64. A lovely addition to anyone's toned collection/registry. Cheers.
A few very minor ticks in the obverse focal area but otherwise very clean. Weak strike typical of 50’s S mint coins. I don’t see any prongs so I’m guessing it is in an old NGC holder, and NGC loves these deeply toned Washies. MS66
Looks like just a few breaks in the toning and some mushy details from the strike, which I personally would not downgrade the coin for but I suppose a TPG might. I will say MS64! It sure is one beautiful coin. I can almost feel the luster through the images.
I would say you have to be EXTREMELY careful of the environment you keep that coin in. It could turn in a heartbeat. It could already be corrosion under the black at the rims, especially the reverse. Personally I would dip it if you want the coin from becoming corroded. I have dipped many of these in the past, and at least half had corrosion under the black.
I'm at MS66. Very clean coin with a typical strike of the date. Luster looks good and blue toning is lovely.
Nice looking toning, very bad strike. The striking was bad, but the condition of the dies deteriorated past their usefulness as well. The marks on Washington's cheek look to be post strike and the larger hit at the back of his head appears to be a hit to the planchet that did not get struck out. The weak strike and the marks on his cheek make me think this is an MS-64. Had the strike been better and the condition of the dies been better, I could see this at a 65+ shot 66.
Several people had noted that this coin has a "very poor strike." I would disagree with this. It's not a well struck coin by any means...but this is what I would consider to be a fairly typical strike for this date.
I agree. They are confusing the toning coverage with strike, as I see it. It is a typical weak strike, which is not unusual for 1954 S coins. By no means is it a terrible strike.
