This is a friendly reminder to everyone that if you have a problem with someone else's postings, you should use the report post feature instead of posting about it in public. Confronting someone with a public post almost never works out well, and very often leads to flame wars and by the time I get involved I'm more in a "heads are going to roll" mindset than a "how can I help" mode. Never knew there was a report post feature? Well, once you see it you'll never forget it. In the post, under someone's avatar near the bottom, you'll see this When you click on that it will bring you to a screen where you can type in an explanation of why you think the post is a problem. That will send a message out to all of the moderators. This is especially useful when there is spam or other types of very abusive messages because it allows us to have the fastest response time. You're also welcome to privately discuss problems with us individually. But, who are all the moderators? Well, we have a list, it's right here. You can send a private message. If you're going to contact us privately, please contact just one of us, maybe you feel more comfortable with one of the moderators, that's fine. If you want to contact more than one, use the report post. If you think someone is being a troll, and you in response to the troll make an offensive post then you are equally guilty. If you think that a new member is a formerly banned member returning under a new identity and you post offensive messages about them in public, then you are guilty. You should report it to us, not create a public spectacle. Thank you.
Oh, and... :desk::desk::desk::desk::desk::desk::desk: :desk::desk::desk::desk::desk::desk::desk: :desk::desk::desk::desk::desk::desk:
That's me banging my head on my desk in frustration. That thread last night was a real embarrassment to our community.
I second Carl's statement. Having seen the thread in question and posting in same (rather professionally IMHO) I can see you getting a lot of "report posts" in the next few days. Good luck with that fellas.
Conflict Thanks Peter I didn't know the report post feature. I wanted to post something regarding conflict and some things that I've seen on cointalk. 1. The person with a new coin that they spent a lot of cash on post it and the coin gets "slammed". The owner of the coin is already upset about their coin getting trashed and a member happens to direct a "slam" at that person. Now he or she is real mad and retaliates. Remember the cointalk code of honor here, and don't slam the person. Report the post or ignore it. 2. Two members battle back and forth on a disagreement. They both seem to think whoever enters the last post in the thread has won. Sometimes it takes more of a person to walk away from a conflict. 3. Sometimes a member will "correct" another members post if they think that the info is wrong. Could be anything from a spelling error to numismatic information that was posted. Sometimes the corrected person gets real mad. I would say to that person, relax so you're wrong no big deal. Just ignore it. 4. Edited posts- Sometimes the moderators will edit a post due to plagiarism or other reasons. The moderators are just doing their job, don't get mad at them. 5. Stay on the subject of coins or use the GD forum. I've been guilty of this many times, so easy to do. I'll have to work harder on this.
There are ways of arguing so that it is fun and then there is other things. Anyway Peter, I might add, if you will allow me, that the forum has a useful ignor feature that can be handy if a member is getting you upset. Ruben
Yes, Life without conflict would be boring. Depends on how far you "take it." Some people "take it with a grain of salt" and others "take it offensively." Depends on the person. For the most part one shouldn't have to "walk on eggshells here". Enough Said.
we were getting embarrassed for a whole week IMHO but the community is not to blame. what happened was once burnt twice shy. sure it looked ugly but thats what happens when a few miscreants cause damage to the system innocents end up suffering. truly unfortunate set of circumstances all around
