If you could go back in time and grab one handful of treasure...

What would it be and why?

    Early thoughts:

    * Handful of gold coins from King Solomon's storehouse
    * Handful of silver coins used to ransom Richard I during the Crusades

I guess it's a toss-up to go for historical coolness or strict monetary value...

    Have fun.

I would like to have pulled a U.S. year set in Mint State of all denominations minted in the 18th century. What a collection that would be!

This question has been posed so many times. Why does everyone always want to go back in time? Don't you know that you might adversely affect the life of a distant relative, and the result would be that you were never born?

Me? I'd rather go forward in time and get the winning Powerball numbers for a $500 million drawing that nobody won!

I would have to say that I would want to go back and see what my Grandfather actually had. Not take anything as to adversely affect any future happenings, I would just like to have seen the treasure he had!

A fistful of EID MAR denarii issued by Brutus to commemorate the assassination of Julius Caesar. EID MAR means "Ides of March." Note the depiction of the weapons used to kill Caesar alongside the liberty cap (pileus). Brutus was proud of what he did and felt that it was necessary to restore liberty to the Roman people.

    Monetary value AND historical coolness.

Then I wouldn't have to have this repro; I could have the real deal!

The good news: you do get to go forward in time! One second per second, whether you want to or not. And all those numbers for all those Powerball drawings that nobody (will have) won will be yours, too, if you want them.

One handful of treasure? Ooh, ooh! A nice batch of 10 or so 1933 Double Eagles, fresh from the cashier's window. My family would be set for life.

    Oh, wait. :(

Go back to late 1916, early 1917. Buy some SLQ, Merc, and walker rolls.

Oh, and as far as what treasure I would grab: I'm sort of torn between something from the Library at Alexandria (depending on your definition of "handful"), and a particular bullet right before it could enter a particular public figure's body. (Out of respect for CT rules and common sense, I won't say which one or ones.)

Whatever. Just the thought of any Morgans being melted makes me cringe.

The best treasure for me if I could go back in time, would be to see how my relatives lived their daily lives. There are so many things we take for granted.

I would love to be able to go back in time and get all of my great great grandparent's dna, as well as those of their siblings..... then I could really trace my ancestry better... And of course be able to talk to them for a bit and get an idea of what they were like.
