If her majesty dies before the 2010 Olympics

Those geniuses at the Royal Canadian mint have come out with Olympic quarters and a couple of Olympic dollars in honor of the 2010 winter games. IN a sop to us lazy people they've put out sets with the entire selection going from this year to 2009, plus a 2010 dollar.

The Queen's face is on all of them. Now as we know, the old bird is 81 years old and may not live to see the 2010 games, much less the 2012 games in London. This raises a conundrum. If, God Forbid, she kicks off this year or next, they will have to issue coins in '08 or '09 with the Charles III's face on them, leaving a strange anomylous coins with the dead queen's visage on them on the sets already issued.

Okay, the question is: will the pre-dated coins be worth lots more, or will they decide to keep chuckie's face off the money until the Olympics are over?

Of course if she lives to be a hundred like her mother, all of this speculation is moot. However, her younger sister died of old age a number of years ago, so who knows? Yeah, I know it's morbid, but it's the RCM's fault not mine.

Don't worry about it. She'll live to be 110.

Sadly it seems rather unlikely that the queen is going to die in the next few years, but the mint is being as stupid as the new zealand mint (when it struck those 1949 crown for the royal visit before it happened (and it didn't happen !))

I don't know the history of New Zealand coins. Are those coins now considered errors?

All I know is that I will run out and buy quite a few sets, as they won't be worth any less money!!

Lets hope that he goes first, then we won't have to worry.
No wonder she looks so healthy-- she wants him to go first.

That coin was issued in 2005 and commemorates the fact that, one year before, the governments of all member states signed that Treaty. In my opinion it would have made more sense to issue that one in 2004 but, oh well. And by and large the Treaty will come, just a little later and with a different name. As for the Canadian commems, well, as long as the year of issue is displayed, I don't see a problem with QEII being depicted on coins that commemorate a 2010 event. Back in the early 1970s, the Federal Republic of Germany issued a series of coins dedicated to the '72 Olympics in Munich. Those were not dated except for the "1972" reference. Now that would not be good for coins that depict some head of state ...

As a side note, I've heard that it's more likely he will style him self as George VII rather than Charles III.

I read somewhere that if Prince Charles ever becomes king, he is going to call himself "George VII" not "Charles III".
