When I get a new large cent my normal procedure is:
    1. Take good pictures.
    2. Post them in here.
    3. Ask for someone to ID the variety.
    4. Add that info the images and my database.
    5. When I find time I dig out my book on large cents and see if I can come up with the same variety.

So what's my go-to book on large cents?
The Cent Book / 1816-1839 by John D. Wright.
    Good grief!
    I just made the connection!!!
The man who wrote the book has been ID'ing my coins.

No wonder he gets them right.

I feel honored that he takes the time to help me.
A very special thanks from me goes out to Mr. Wright.

I've got another large cent coming.
I'll see if I can ID it first and then let John check my performance.

P.S. I'm good at ID'ing Classic Head half cents varieties.
    I've got a full set.
But they are a LOT easier to ID; there only 24.
The 1809 C-1 was the last one I got; expensive even in a DETAILS grade.

As I am currently focused (mostly) on middle date large cents, Mr. Wright's outstanding book is my go-to for attribution. I have an autographed copy.

You didn't know that? I have mentioned several times that the author was a member here. And if you ever get a chance to meet him you'll find out he is a swell guy in person, and Mabel Ann is wonderful as well.
