Do you have any tips for identifying world coins with non-western language and/or dating?

Israel usually has the Menorah or Star of David. Other than that, I am usually clueless.

I bought several pounds of foreign (Non-USA) coins and had fun identifying them but am stumped by the remainder.

    Any hints for me?

Do you have an SCWC? If so, it has an identification section in the beginning. If not, try this page of the World Coin Gallery.

    Thanks BigH - nice link

I borrowed it before deciding to buy it hontonai.
(BTW, thanks again for your help with Japanese coins.)
(I struggle but can now translate Japanese dates!)

Thanks for your link too bigjpst.

It is still hard for this thick-headed, English only speaker, but the links are helping!

I have written a few guides on various numeral systems. If you'd like, I can post the links here.

Actually is hard to idnetify non-western coins, you must know the language of subject. If it is an arabic coin u actually must know arabic in order to read it, even the numbers in arabic are different. If u ve got an arabic coin I could be of some help to you. Don not hesitate to ask.

    cheers,

Here's the lastest one that I'm pulling out my hair trying to identify! :)

The date is AH1293 but I can't figure where the year of rule is. (Is that what regnal means?)

The Krause text says the denomination is below the Tughra but it looks like 13. (or 013?)

The only picture in Egypt coinage that seems close the the O in the center of the reverse is a later date 5/10 Qirsh.

So my best guess is Egypt 5/10 Qirsh, AH1293/13
