I'm sure some of the resident CT experts will be able to ID this coin. Clue: Lets just say it's not exactly the centerpiece of my collection.
Yup-Impulse buy from HSN back when i knew nothing about coins. I keep it, just to remind myself not to be suckered by people. It came with five other V nicholes and cost me $30. I didn't realize that they did the plateing themselves(HSN) until i recieved them. What a rip off
The gold has too much luster to be consistent with the wear... so yep, this was definitely plated recently. Would be nice to have one that was plated back in 1883. Not sure what the numismatic value on that would be but it would definitely be an interesting peice of history.
Thats what i thought i was getting, the way they represented it was misleading, when it arrived i realized i'd been had.
You're "joshing" me... (Can you tell me the significance of this reference, Speedy? It's a little bit of trivia for you related to the original numismatic fraud back in 1883).
There is no significance. Use of the term Josh meaning to trick or fool pre-dates the rackateer nickels by close to 50 years. The Josh Tatum story is fictional.
Nope--I didn't know that HSN plated their own coins....as for the term...I think it had to do with a guy name Josh that was later turned out to be a fake story..... Speedy
I should be more specific,I'm sure HSN sends the coins out to a third party to have them gold-plated. Either way it's still a RIP.
