Hello. I am trying to find some help in identifying two coins that I believe are from an Indian Princely State. Thanks for any help you can provide!
The top one looks very similar to a Jodhpur State, Rajashthan, 2 Pais that I have in my collection Couple of sites to check out http://home.comcast.net/~pankajtandon/home.html http://www.nupam.com http://worldcoingallery.com with the last one look under India and it gives a few links to other types
The bottom coin appears to be a 1/2 Larin of Muhammad Imad al-Din IV(1835-1882) from the Maldives. Date looks like AH1251, but Krause only lists this date for a square coin?
The first coin is from Indian Princely state named Kutch. The coin is issued in name of Shri Desalji and is dated 1893. Unfortunately, it looks like a contemporary counterfeit unless it's a pure silver coin. This prototype was used only for half Kori and one Kori coins from 1890-1895. Both denominations were struck in pure silver while the one in subject looks like a copper coin. Can you tell us the weight of this coin? Regards, Ballabh Garg
Thank you Thank you for the information. I will weigh the coin tomorrow. In my hand, it feels quite heavy for its size. The coin collector - my brother - who gave it to me said it was silver. Thanks, again, for your help. Mark McDonough
weights The top coin weighed in at .2 ounces or 5.67 grams. The smaller coin weighed less than .1 ounce so I could not calculate the gram weight. mark
