Looks quite similar to the "Doppelguldiner" that Maximilian I had minted when he became emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. http://imagedb.coinarchives.com/img/peus/377/03142q00.jpg That was also the first coin with the name of our continent (I'm from Europe) on it. But that one was issued in 1508. So this will be some kind of replica. The date "1493" does not really make sense to me. What is that signature above the "1" by the way? Christian
Thanks for the suggestions. It looks like it might be a fractional guldiner. I've found one that looks like it on http://128.192.145.172/dan35.html from 1493. As for the marking above the one, I am clueless... looks like a NPZ or NRZ Any suggestions where this might lead would be helpful.
Who would be a good person to contact to see exactly what this is? Is there a guide that lists coins from this period?
