OK, I am mainly a collector or US coins but I have shown interest in other areas at times. When I was younger and had minimal knowledge, I purchased two coins that I was told were Roman coins. They are badly worn and one appears to has vergis (spelling?) pretty badly. I'm sire they are close to worthless...but I would like to know what they are (and if they are even Roman)...and what (if anything) they might be worth. Roman coins have always interested me...but I think these are pretty bad...but you be the judge as I know very little about them.

Here is the first one, it is about the diameter of an American nickel but not quite as thick. It appears to be made of copper. On what I assume is the obverse, there is a bust of some kind facing to the right and on the reverse what appears to be a person standing. There are the best photos I could get, but they look bad...the coins look terrible but the camera is doing them no favors either:

Next is a smaller coin, it is about the diameter of an American dime but thinner. It appears to made of copper as around the edges is quite lusterous. The obverse has what looks like a soldier (based on the helmet) facing to the left and on the reverse an animal of some kind (a wolf or something).

Does anyone have any idea what they are, when they date and what they are worth. Like I said, I doubt they have much value...but I like them and would like to know about them (if you can even identify them).

I'm sorry about the photos, but its really pretty much the best I can do. Hopefully they are good enough.

you're correct, they're roman coins. i don't recognize the first, though i believe the obverse of the first coin bears a female bust.

the second coin is an VRBS ROMA commemerative bronze. i can't make out much detail from your pictures, so i can only point you generally to this link at Wildwinds:

    http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/city_commemoratives/i.html

the value is probably low, given the shape of the coins, but they're pretty cool.

if you can make out any of the inscriptions on either coin, i (or others more experienced) would be happy to help more.
