I have a few coins in slabs I would like to display on my desk. Does anyone have any creative ideas for stands or displays to make them be upright? I’d like to be able to see the coin, of course I’ve played around with using my router to cut some grooves in some trim pieces but figured that someone has already been down this road and has a good system. Thanks, Mike
This something that I use. I believe I got it from Wizard Coin supply, the easel from Michaels craft store.
I haven’t done it yet but have the very same thought process. I carry different coins to my office to enjoy during the stress of the day. I had thought the very same thing. Taking a 5/4 piece of oak, route the edge and slice a groove down the middle so I could slide a couple of slabs in each day. Now I feel a bit more motivated to get it done.
I've got an idea for you. Why cover up all of that precious real estate on your desk? You could make one of those mobiles we all made in 3rd grade art class, and hang them above the desk instead. Yeah . . . just kidding.
Depends on your space and your budget, the location of the desk and who has access to it and how far you want to go. if it's in a secure location, some slab display easels are cheap and will do the job, like $12 a dozen on amazon. if it's public and you want it a bit more secure and a nice display and you got some money to blow, it's hard to beat the case below, lighted and it rotates. that and the coin slabs on the easels, would make an awesome display and likely 15 or more coins on rotation so you don't have to bop around to view them all. this display case is like $300 though. it's 14"x14" footprint and about 34" tall, my desk is 6ft by 4 ft. I have the space for something like that or larger even. there's others along these lines though. cheaper and more expensive. if it's lighted, I'd go with halogen over LED though. just better viewing in my opinion.
not in "desktop" category, but a guy can dream can't he? this would look great in my living room! LOL 11 shelves, 8 positions per shelf...nice. https://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-TIMEX-LIGHTED-TALL-DISPLAY-CASE-ROTATING-IN-GREAT-CONDITION/324524936840?_trkparms=aid=111001&algo=REC.SEED&ao=1&asc=20160908105057&meid=fe40d39232f4467ab365ffcfc6ab15b6&pid=100675&rk=1&rkt=15&mehot=none&sd=324524936840&itm=324524936840&pmt=1&noa=1&pg=2380057&_trksid=p2380057.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci:4f60990e-8bee-11eb-a513-72f357fae5c6|parentrq:5fbffefe1780a9bdb1be63fbffa5993d|iid:1
You can go to ebay and type in "used coin display holders." It should give you plenty of ideas. Good luck
If this is for a home office that's ok but, be careful what you display and who could see it. If at work don't do it. I've had my own industrial business for 30 years and things do disappear. Even in a private office setting I wouldn't advise doing it. As a warning to everyone if a person has a drug problem they will steal from their best friend just to get their next fix. If you have children that could bring a friend or allow a friend of a friend come into your house even for a short period of time. They could see your display if in an open area. That person could come back at a later date and grab your coin display and sell it for drugs. If they can carry it they will steal it. Drugs take over their mind & body and if they need a fix they will do anything to get it. It's horrible when this happens and I know some good people that tossed their life away because of drugs.
I've seen small, individual folding easels...mostly made from wood but also plastic...mainly for small pics or plates, medals, etc. There was a pic posted by someone of a larger plastic one...but they make 'em smaller and pretty sure would accommodate a coin slab. Just be careful with any scratching, and, oh, yes, with anything of this sort exposed...ya gotta keep 'em dusted.
I really like the @dwhiz idea, but again; Home office or business office would have me thinking of security. Let us know what you come up with and include photos please.
A totally different option for you to consider: Digital Photo Frames. You can download close-up photos of all your coins (whether slabbed or not) and the displayed images will keep changing. CON: You and your guests will not be looking at or holding the actual slab. PRO: You can zoom in (depending on model) to see or show close-ups of DDs, RPMs, etc.
