I found this very tiny small roman coin. not even 1g It's bronze. can someone ID who is this and what is on reverse of coin. Coin is bad shape but will be nice to know for me who is this.
The coin is what we call a Barbarous Radiate or a copy of a coin of the mid-late 3rd century AD either Roman or Gallic empires. Because the altar was not used by many rulers and is most common for Claudius II we tend to give all to him. As time passed the copies became smaller and smaller but some retained enough detail that we can ID them. Few little guys are really full detail but the dies were small enough to make tiny coins. Below is a 0.7g mimini of Tetricus II / PIETAS I bought for the massive sum of $5 in 1989 from a dealer named Dorney. Should I complain it never grew up?
