I suspect it is since the currency unit is "jiao".

It is 1/10th of a yuan, basically 10 fen. It was interesting when I was there that these were often taped together in little 5 coin rolls and used as 5 jiao coins since that denomination in coins was not that common in circulation. The 1 and 5 fen coins were pretty worthless and I only rarely saw them.

    Thanks.

I was reasonably sure it's Chinese (aluminum).
I know almost nothing about China so I wasn't sure if that value was used in other areas around China.

One of my side collections are the coins issued during the Japanese occupation of China.
They were issued from 1933 through 1945.
The highest value was the chiao (now spelled jiao).
Either way they were worth 10 fen.
There were also 1 fen and 5 fen coins plus 5 li coins.

Considering that the 1 and 5 fen coins are "pretty worthless" now I'm guessing the 5 li coins no longer exist.

Well, that's interesting. Did not think these were aluminum in 2009. looks like they went through aluminum, cu-ni and steel with these between 2001 - 2008.
