I bought this 1632 Leopold AR Thaler thinking that it would be easy to find information about it. However I can't seem to find another with the same mint mark.

    This coin reads:

    Obverse: LEOPOLDVS D G ARC D AVSTRI
    Reverse: DVX BVRGVNDI COMES TYROL

The nearest coin I could find to mine was inscribed as:

Obverse: LEOPOLDVS D. G. ARCHIDVX AVSTRIAE
    Reverse: DVX BVRGVNDI COMES TIROLIS
(note the different spelling in 'TIROLIS')

Any help with the ID and value of my coin would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

This coin is not a thaler - it is a 10 kreuzer as indicated by the circled 10 under the bust. It is KM # 589.2 ( previuosly KM # 795.2 ) in the 3rd edition Krause.Value for that coin should range from $65 - $125.

Thank you very much for your knowledge about this coin. I'm new to these coins from Austria but slowly learning more about them.

Spot on with the attribution GD., but gosh have prices moved on that much? Time to update my copies of Krause if that's the state of play.

My one lists it at $60 in EF (as top grade), but even though the obverse is really struck up nicely and over all it's a really nice coin I still wouldn't have given it an EF. Almost there and maybe settle at an EF/VF, but to me the reverse really let's it down in my eyes. There's supposed to be jewels in the band of the crown. Although you can make out something, they look worn flat to me, which is an indicator of wear to the rest of the reverse too IMHO. On that basis I wouldn't have thought it would command any more than $60, but maybe that's the tight puckered lil' Scot in me. :) Do you think i'm maybe being a wee bit too strict with my grading?

    Ian - that was $60 VF - $125 XF. I favor the VF ;)

So I really do need to update my Krause's. My edition has it at $35 in VF - $60 in EF. My doesn't time fly, and prices rise!

(mumble mumble)...but the print is still legible....(grump groan). :)
