Ran into this one going through a group of detector finds I purchased. I was checking the Wren book, and the closest I found was one with an annulet to the left and a pellet to the right. This one seems to have two pellets to the right. The close one in the Wren guide was a Henry IV, so definitely one I wanted to verify. Any thoughts would be great! Nathan
Hi Nathan, I have checked Wren also and confirm your findings. The coin could be Henry IV light coinage penny London mint variety 2 or 3. As you stated on these coins there is an annulet on the left and one pellet on the right. I cannot find anything in Wren with 2 pellets to the right and an annulet on the left. There is however a penny of henry VI that has 2 pellets to the left AND 2 pellets on the right. I hope it is a Henry IV, that would be a great find. I noticed you called it a half penny. It think the Wren book is only for pennies. Sorry I could not help. Andrew
This one is definitely a halfpenny. I think you are right on Wren, don't know what the resource for halfpennies would be though.
It is probably a half penny of Henry V, class F, with an annulet and trefoil flanking the bust. The reverse cross has caused weakness in parts of the obverse strike and so one of the pellets of the trefoil is missing. See an example of class F below.
