Its me again, I've got a couple of gold coins, and was wondering if you guys could tell me what they are worth. I think I know what they are. They are both uncirculated. First one I think is an Austrian Ducat, its just under 2cm dia and 1mm thick,on one side its got a two headed dragon/bird with a crown above its head, it says IMPERIVM AVSTRIACVM. It also has two different currencies on it 4FI and 10Fr, the date is 1892. On the other side is a fellas head, he's got a wreath on his head, he,s got huge sideburns and a moustache. It says FRANCISCVS.I.D.G.IMPERATOR.ET.REX. Directly underneath his neck is a little star. The other coin I think is a sovreign,Its about 2.3cm dia and just over 1mm thick, the edge of the coin is slotted or splined (youll know what I mean). On one side its got a guy on a horse about to slay a dragon, and a date 1907, above the date is a tiny little S and to the right of the date are two tiny letters which I think are B and F, or B and P. On the other side is a bald guy with a pointy beard and it says EDWARDVS VII D: G: BRITT: OMN: REX F: D: IND: IMP:. Directly underneath his neck are two tiny letters, I cant quite make them out but they could be D.S or D.3. With this coin when looking on the guy on the horse side theres a line right around ther outer edge about 0.5mm in and little graduations all the way around, but on the other side theres just little dots all the way around the outer edge. (I hope that made sense) If you could just tell me a little about these coins and an estimated value it would be great. Thanks Harry
The first coin is not a ducat - it is known as a 4 florin & 10 francs. It contains just under 1/10 of an oz of gold. This particular date is a restrike - a coin struck with original dies but in later years, sometimes several years. Because of this it has no real numismatic value - its value is that of the gold content. At the present time - about $50. The second coin you describe sounds like a sovereign struck in Sydney, Australia. It is a bit less than 1/4 oz of gold. The coins are not uncommon and in EF condition have a value equal to the gold content - about $100. In UNC condition they go for a bit more - maybe $115.
